i think AY tunes (in god knows how many formats) should be time-predictable. i know SID isn't, but i never quite understood why, i guess really it's hardware instructions, and someimes tricks

i think VLC has a SID plugin (it's a little weird because the playtime is not predictable) -- nobody bothered with AY, last time i checked
