Yeah You'd need someone dedicated to USING the AdLib/OPL to get the max out of it. Just like one may optimize code instead of just converting and hoping the CPU - GPU is powerful enough.

I used to own an AdLib and the music on the demo disks were different in style and sound than the FM from other games

But there are a lot of tunes here with OPLL platform not tagged as Adlib, and they have a different sound from what I associate with that Adlib sound. I don't know the history or tech well enough...

Not all games used the chip THAT effectively, though. Dune is probably the one that took the most advantage of it.
